I
have been involved in one way or another with purebred dogs since 1971. I
have owned, bred, trained and exhibited English Springer Spaniels,
Pekingese, Toy Poodles, Shetland Sheepdogs, a rescue Golden Retriever, a
rescue Great Pyrenees, Mastiffs, Maltese and a Chihuahua.
In 1971, I
bought my first registered dog, an English Springer Spaniel and got
involved with the Calgary English Springer Spaniel Club which was my
introduction to field trials. I also decided to learn what I could about
training and so enrolled in a Novice Obedience class under the instruction
of Evelyn Kenny. She was well respected and scared me half to death but I
certainly learned Obedience!
In 1974, I
bought a Pekingese, joined the Canadian Kennel Club and began actively
showing my dogs in conformation and competing in obedience. In 1978, I
bought my first Mastiff and have been hooked on the breed ever since. In
1980, I decided to add Toy Poodles and Shelties to the group.
I met Bill in
the summer of 1995 and we were married in 1997. He is totally supportive
of my involvement with the dogs and we go to the shows together as much as
possible.
I am now
actively pursuing a career as an all-breed conformation judge and am at
this point licensed for the the Sporting Group (Group 1), Working Group (Group 3), the Terrier Group (Group 4) and the Toy Group (Group 5), and the Herding Group (Group 7). Presently I
am on permit for the Non-Sporting Group (Group 6). I am also a CGN (Canine Good Neighbour) evaluator. |
